Gallop / 16th grouping · 4/4 · 90–180 BPM
Gallop engine
The 16th-16th-8th gallop. Metal's oldest horse, still the breakdown's best friend.
Gallops teach pick-hand burst control. You learn to spend motion, then rest, without flamming.
gallop
xx·xx·xx·xx·xx·x
Three attacks, one length of silence. The silence is part of the riff.
- 01
Pattern per beat: two 16ths then an 8th (down-down-down, or down-up-down).
- 02
Mute all three hits the same. The long note is still muted — it is not a release.
- 03
Say 'da-da-dum' with the pick. If the dum rings, the palm crept off the saddle.
- 04
Climb in 10 BPM steps. At 160, switch to down-up-down if the wrist tenses.
