Set the metronome to 7/8, grouping 2+2+3. Tap your foot only on group starts.

Play muted 8ths. Accent the three group starts. That is the riff already.

Put an open 5 on the last group of 3 — a longer stomp to close the bar.

Switch grouping to 3+2+2 and feel how the riff leans the other way.
